Zinc: A Solution for the Cold

A cold usually makes us act differently than we’d usually act. There’s nothing much really we can do other than use up the Kleenex tissues and try to wrap ourselves with warm, floppy blankets. The best way to beat the cold seems to be waiting until the cold leaves us. Dr. Meenu Singh, who works at a major medical institution, said there is “the evidence for zinc as a treatment for the common cold.”A study done by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in India used 966 individuals who had cold symptoms and gave them zinc supplements. Researchers found that the zinc intake reduced the time period that cold symptoms generally last. Research still has to be done to find out whether asthmatic patients can be helped by zinc and also whether zinc has any negative side effects. Zinc not only protects us from a common cold, but may also save our time and tissues.
